Here is additional information on Sassy from her Foster Mother.
Sassy’s house and car manners are IMPECCABLE.
House: She is perfect in the house. She has spent nights sleeping inside with Zero problems. She is polite and bothers nothing.
She asks to go outside by going to the door and asking. She sometimes touches the door knob with her nose. Or, she will come where I am and give me a look to tell me she wants out.
When I have been taking a nap and she needed out, she came to the bed, stood on her hind legs, and put her front feet on the bed and nudged me and when I haven’t responded immediately she’s put her legs on me to make her point. I sort of “tested” this by not responding instantly and just lying in bed, and she put her paws on me to tell me she needed out.
Treats in the House: When Sassy is given a treat in the house, 100% of the time, she takes it to a dog blankie and eats it there.
She LOVES to ride in the car. She is very physically fit and capable, and gets right up into the cab of my crew cab truck.
She is thoroughly trouble free and a pleasure to take along. If she is sitting on the front bench seat, she either cuddles next to me, or on the bucket-style seat in another truck, she will sit politely like a people.
When she is sitting on the back seat of the crew cab, she is completely polite with the other dogs. Gretchen loves to sit on Eli and Sassy wherever Eli and Sassy may be sitting in the truck. Yes-That’s sit on. Gretchen climbing onto the front seat of the crew cab when Sassy or Eli are sitting there is particularly entertaining. Sassy tolerates this beautifully-She ignores what’s going on.
When Gretchen sits on Sassy in the back seat, or hogs Sassy’s open window, Sassy does not complain.
Sassy waits in the vehicle, sitting or lying politely, and she bothers nothing that is in the vehicle.
If I go outdoors and walk by a truck, she goes to the vehicle, and politely-not annoyingly, looks at it and me, like, “Can we go for a ride?”
Accommodating and endeavors to please. I have a procedure for driving vehicles in and out of the gate where I insist that the dogs stay back 20 feet from the gate. Sassy caught on to this rule very quickly and aims to please by staying back where I want her to. She will even move back farther than the minimum without being asked.
She lets Gretchen pounce on her for play. Sassy also initiates play with Gretchen, and they go out to patrol as girl friends when they leave the house after mealtime.
She unequivocally comes when called.
Eating. I serve meals to Gretchen, Eli, and Sassy at the same time. Their bowls are spaced 3’ feet apart. I often have to ASK Sassy to begin eating by tapping her bowl and encouraging her. I supervise meal time by being close by, and Sassy has never exhibited any food aggression, or even reasonable assertiveness.
Livestock. She is excellent with my horses (2) and llamas (4). She does not disturb them, and she has given me no reason to worry that she would get stepped on or menace them. She patrols in the pastures and on the fence lines, and appropriately barks at things outside the fences.
With other dogs. We have encountered other dogs when in public and from the truck, and she is polite and quiet. In the store, she wags her tail at the other dogs and is friendly.
Protecting the parcel. She patrols in the pastures and on the fence lines, and appropriately barks at things outside the fences. She is attentive to her work outside.
She likes to be outside, and is a gem inside. She seems to enjoy coming inside for the purpose of getting lovings. After she’s had her lovings, she is ready to go outside unless she is asked to stay inside.
Playful with Gretchen. She asks Gretchen to play, and she acts like it isn’t even happening when Gretchen throws her entire body on top of Sassy when Gretchen is being exuberant. Gretchen throwing herself on top of Sassy while Sassy is standing there greeting me as I come home from work or I’ve just fed the horses is a daily occurrence, and Sassy stays focused on saying hello to me. She has never growled or reacted once, and she would be within her rights to react or growl.
Physically fit. She is so great and such a fantastic guardian that now that she's extremely settled in, she runs a few miles a day on the job. Sometimes she is a slight bit stiff when she gets up, but that works out in a few minutes.
Affectionate. She loves to cuddle, hug, sit at my feet, and generally be close and loving. She also enthusiastically asks to go outside and take care of the parcel.
